Gibson Acoustic Guitars

We were not surprised that a Godin family brand has so many high quality features for such a low dollar amount. With companies like Seagull under their wing, they have earned themselves a spot in a lot of players minds as the "Best Bang for the Buck" company around. Simon and Patrick guitars are built with the same attention to detail Seagulls are. First off, all the tops are solid. They are even pressure tested to assure they will be resonant, lively and structurally sound. The tops are then braced with Adirondack Spruce. The neck and body have been reinforced at their joining point to insure proper action and less warping and twisting. The saddles and nuts are all made of Tusq. The finish used is called, “Custom Polished Finish”. It’s not a thick Plastic coating that doesn’t allow the guitar to breathe. The guitar will sound better the more it is played as the top becomes more flexible. The main reason they are able to keep the cost of these guitars down is by making the back and sides out of a 3 Ply Laminate of Hardwoods like Cherry and Mahogany. Think of it as a drum shell, that’s pretty much how they are built. Some of the more expensive models have solid backs and sides too. If you haven’t had the chance to see how one of these stacks up to a Martin DM, give one a try before you plunk down 8 bills!
