Back in 1848 some lucky SOB found a bit of shiny rock on the ground in California and ignited a firestorm that lasted decades, built up one of the biggest cities in the state and made some people very wealthy indeed. Unfortunately, the great “Gold Rush of ‘49” drove a lot of ordinary people out of their minds and sent them up into the hills to pan rivers, dig holes and eventually become toothless whack jobs all in the name of greed. Good times, good times. Luckily, all you need to experience the thrill of the gold rush is this PRS DGT Gold Top!

Right away you’ll notice the stunning gold finish accented by a dark, thick mahogany back and natural binding. The faux bone tuning knobs are a cool, vintage looking touch that accent the look of this guitar perfectly. And the Pattern Regular neck is full and flat, making for fleet fingering despite the standard .11 gauge strings. Access to the upper frets is no problem, allowing you to really stretch out while soloing.

And solo you will thanks to the patented Grissom pickups with coil tap. Starting in the neck position, you’ll be greeted with a full, fat and warm tone that grinds up nicely when driven (think “Smoke on the Water” tone). Splitting the coils here yields a more muted, full and clear sound perfect for Jazz or driven Blues/Rock. The middle position is jangly and meaty giving up a perfect Rock tone when pushed. Splitting the middle position gives even more jangle and an overdriven tone reminiscent of SRV. Country pickers will love the bright, twangy sound of the bridge pickup, while Rock players will marvel at how full and fat this pickup gets when driven hard. This is truly one of the most versatile guitars I’ve played with vintage style and incredible tone. Whether you’re into Rock, Blues, Jazz, Country or … anything really … this guitar can handle it. And just think, all the excitement and rush of finding gold without getting dirty, leaving your family or losing your teeth. Cool.
