“Who have you been sleeping with?” Mr. Tele asked his wife. “Nobody but you, dear,” she responded cooly. “Then how do you explain THIS?” screamed Mr. Tele, holding their newborn high for all to see. Shock resonated through the delivery room as Mrs. Tele realized her secret was finally revealed – she had been unfaithful to her husband and the proof was evident in the overwhelming Strat-like features of their new child. “Sneaking off with Mr. Strat behind my back!? How could you??” Mr. Tele cried. Mrs. Tele looked up sheepishly and replied, “I was … curious.”

And so, too, were the folks at LsL when they decided to meld the best of the “T” and “S” style guitars together into what they’ve termed the Mongrel. With a natural Ash body, Maple neck and three LSL-designed single coil tele-like pickups connected to a 5-way switch, this creation, named Emmy, is certainly curious. But once you plug in, you’ll realize just how spectacular the marriage of these two designs can be! Your hand immediately settles in comfortably on the large “C” shaped neck which plays effortlessly. The Ash body shows very light crazing in the nitro finish while the custom made hardware is aged to perfection. And the bonus “belly cut” on the back side allows the body to sit nicely against you where you can feel the wood vibrate with every note.

And vibrate she does, with excellent sustain and a heavier, solid tone! The neck pickup is very warm, full and articulate and gets thick and growly when driven. Position 4 remains warm but brings in the low mids for excellent Jazz tones and gets full on throaty for great Blues / Rock leads. The middle pickup is where the mids really come alive – excellent for chords and Texas Blues style playing. Position 2 yields nice clarity with a round tone that oozes Funk to Country Rock, while the bridge pickup has that Tele twang you love with bite that drives nicely into angry Rock leads when you need it. Amazingly versatile, superbly playable and a looker to boot. If you’ve been wondering what the perfect blend of “T” and “S” style guitars might sound like, give “Emmy” a try and satisfy your curiosity once and for all.
