“Merci de faire une ce guitar!” If I spoke French, that’s what I’d say to Monsieur Lance Lerman who made this fine LsL CV Special aptly named, “Merci.” If you’re not familiar with LsL guitars, Mr. Lerman and company make just about everything from scratch in their workshop turning out some of the nicest (and most affordable) hand built single coil creations around. From bodies to pickups to hardware, these guys create each guitar from the ground up – and it shows in the feel, playability and tone of their guitars.
The CV Special model was created with input from session master Carl Verheyen who, if you haven’t heard his stuff, is an incredible player with a huge repertoire of styles at his fingertips. And this guitar was made to handle anything you can throw at it, even the abuse someone like Carl can put an instrument through with daily session workouts. So it should come as no surprise that if you’re a fan of the single coil genre you will LOVE the way this guitar performs. From the striking CV Blue nitro finish (that actually looks blue-black in person) to the full, fat and fast neck to the exquisitely vintage sounding hand wound pickups, this is an instant classic waiting to be discovered.
The sustain and full tone of this guitar unplugged is the first hint that this is one special instrument. And once you plug in you’ll be rewarded with a warm, full and fat tone in the neck position with plenty of clarity and not a hint of mud. Push it hard and you get a thick-as-a-milkshake overdriven tone that’ll drive the Blues/Rocker into fits of joy! In Position 4 you get the familiar SRV “Lenny” tone that turns lean and mean when driven. The middle pickup sounds brighter and spanky and likes to have a little “hair” on it, while Position 2 is spunky, funky and round sounding and gets thicker and rounder the more you push it. In the bridge you’ll find a tele-like Country spank that loves to be driven hard into Rock territory and responds very well to delay and other effects should your leads need a little atmosphere.
This is a beautifully crafted, handsome guitar with a lightly relic’d finish that feels perfect from the moment you pick it up. With tone that rivals the best single coil guitar you’ve ever heard, it’s hard not to think this guitar will someday find its way onto some iconic recordings. Why not try it out for yourself and see how it might inspire you to write the next big hit?
Our price includes a personalized set up, hardshell case, and free shipping in the continental USA.
