Did you know ‘Dakota Red’ was initially a color created for Cadillac in 1958? Now you do! And lucky for us Fender decided to add it to their line of nitro finishes because this one’s a beauty! Light relic’ing gives this axe a nicely worn in feel and the crazing and checking in the finish is just right.

The oversized headstock projects a cool 70’s vibe, but this guitar has a number of modern accents that also add to its sonic signature. The modern “C” neck is fast and slim and a heel contour allows for excellent access to the upper frets. Locking tuners and a roller nut combine with the rock solid tremolo bridge to offer up incredible tuning stability and sustain. But the best modern convenience …? All the tone, none of the noise! Thanks to the Samarium Cobalt Noiseless pickups in this baby, you can finally get that Strat tone you crave without the 60 cycle hum. Although these pickups are a bit more modern sounding, what they lack in vintage chime and sparkle is more than made up for in clarity and depth. The neck pickup is full, warm and fat and growls ferociously when pushed. Position 4 is clear and potent when driven. The middle pickup is a perfect blend of light and dark, and gets very “bluesy” when pushed. Position 2 offers up plenty of quack and reminded me of Clapton’s “After Midnight” tone when I kicked in the overdrive. The bridge pickup is bright and clear but not harsh and handles distorted tones extremely well.

This guitar exudes a 70’s vibe with modern features and is perfect for the player who needs to cover a lot of different styles. The larger headstock and heavier body give this guitar a lot of power and heft. Much like those early Cadillacs, this one can rule the road and look cool doing it.
