“She was a fiery redhead with a beautiful, long neck and curvaceous body that screamed sexy but whispered sophistication. Man, she had it all in a package that would make most men weep. The kind you’d gladly take home to mama, all the while knowing she had a dark, wild side you couldn’t wait to explore.” Perfect. Striking. Beautiful. That was my first impression of this Fender® Custom Shop Roadshow LTD NOS Stratocaster® in Antique Cherry Burst with Abby Hand Wound pickups. The pics cannot do this guitar justice – you really do have to see her to believe how stunning she is in person and how the wood grain just pops.

And apart from her looks, she’s a very versatile little vixen – able to throw down the hardest rock licks you can muster to the sweetest blues and jazz textures your fingers can coax out of her. Once you start to play her, you notice the “C” shaped neck fits your hand perfectly and the finish is smooth as silk. The heel contour gives excellent access to the upper frets and the locking tuners and roller nut keep her in tune even on heavy bends and extreme whammy wrangling.

And the sustain, oh my the sustain!!! Playing through the neck pickup feels like warm apple pie with excellent tone in both clean and driven modes. Position 4 yields a fantastic jazz tone while Position 2 evokes shades of 70’s rock. The middle pickup is mellow and sweet, while the bridge pickup is full and biting. Add in the S-1 switching system and you have one of the most versatile guitars around. Honestly, this little redhead is full of surprises and just waiting for the chance to shine.
