“What do this guitar don’t do?” (The Five Heartbeats? Anybody?? Great movie – Google it, you’ll thank me later). Seriously, this Fender® Custom Shop John Cruz Masterbuilt 51 Squier® is one cool piece. The construction is impeccable, the “52 U” shaped neck is incredibly comfortable and fast, the body contour fits you like a glove. I could go on and on, so I will … This guitar exhibits some options not typically seen in a Fender guitar. Specifically, the typical tone knob is used as the pickup selector switch giving you the ability to “click” thru the neck, neck/bridge and bridge positions. But you won’t miss the lack of tone knob. Why? Let me tell you … The pickups in this guitar are FANTASTIC! I’m not yanking your chain – these are some of the nicest sounding pickups I’ve ever had the pleasure to play. And they’re voiced so well you don’t even need to mess with the tone (which, of course, you can’t)! The lipstick pickup in the neck is incredible, warm and very clear sounding – excellent for jazz, blues and rock. The middle position gives off a perfect midrange honk and the bridge is bright, twangy and spanky. Overdrive your amp (or kick on your favorite OD pedal) and you’ll play for hours.

Did I mention the weight? This guitar feels like a feather, sits perfectly when playing seated and hangs effortlessly from your strap. The offset body style is unique, but don’t let it stop you from checking out this beauty. If you’re looking for a new take on the Fender sound this is it – there’s literally nothing this guitar can’t do. Literally.
