Shhhh, I just snuck this Fender Custom Shop 66 Stratocaster Closet Classic in 3 Tone Sunburst guitar out of Eric Clapton’s closet and I don’t want to wake him. OK, that’s both wrong and fairly creepy. But there’s no denying this beauty looks like it could have come straight from E.C.’s collection of 60’s Strats. With a stunning 3-tone sunburst finish showing authentic checking and crazing in the lacquer, aged hardware and a slightly worn maple fretboard, this Closet Classic instantly feels like an old friend from the moment you pick it up.

The neck is VERY comfortable with a nicely worn in feel and plays loose and smooth – perfect for bends, slurs and finger vibrato. The aged 60’s pickups are not overly bright like some Strats of this era and can lay down solid, bold cleans to singing overdriven tones – nice! The neck pickup is warm and fat with a bluesy growl when pushed while the middle and bridge positions add spank and grit but never get harsh. The burst finish, matching headstock and light checking give this axe a very retro vibe that just feels … If you’re into the Blues, Classic Rock, Funk or Jazz you owe it to yourself to give this one a try.
